Welcome to the Open Sky Creative Society

The Open Sky Creative Society (OSCS) is based in Fort Simpson (Liidlii Kue) in the Dehcho, a multi-cultural region composed of a dozen or so villages & aboriginal settlements located in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The OSCS was formed in 1999 by local artists & arts supporters who saw a need for an arts & cultural service organization as well as presentation & artist outreach opportunities in the Dehcho. The society’s presence in our region is vital as extreme distances to the nearest urban centres result in few opportunities for audiences & artist alike.

4 Quick Tips From Interior Designers to Liven Up Your Home

Whether you have just moved into a new place or you are looking to spruce up the old home, there are a few quick and easy tricks that interior designers use that will brighten up your place at little cost. Interior designers know that the smallest changes can have the biggest impacts. If you need to remodel your home, then you should call the talented Calgary interior designers that are available to help you. However, if you are just looking for a quick fix to some design doldrums, then these 4 tips from the pros are perfect for you.

Use Softer Colors to Make Small Rooms Seem Bigger

Many small rooms have the tendency to feel uncomfortable and cramped. However, large windows, light colored walls, and mirrors can all maximize the natural light in a room and give it the illusion of space. Darker walls will make the room seem smaller, and no amount of light from windows or mirrors can counteract this effect.

Use Beautiful Mirrors to Add Style and Light to Your Rooms

As discussed, mirrors help in making smaller rooms seem larger. Place the mirrors directly across from windows to add more light. Mirrors can also be used instead of art to fill the empty spots on your walls. Mirrors add dimension and light to any living space.

Mix Things Up

Do not hesitate to put family heirlooms beside your contemporary furniture. All pros know that the most important part of home decorating is to reflect who you are as a person. Your antiques and your newest purchases all tell a different story about you, and there is no reason that they cannot do so together. Also try varying the fabrics and colors of rugs, pillows and furniture to add some texture and warmth to your living areas.

Slip Into Something Comfortable

Slip covers sometimes have a bad reputation, but the pros know that they can work wonders. Slips are a great way to easily change the style of a room without a lot of new purchases or heavy lifting. They are easy to use and store, so you can give your furniture a wide variety of sophisticated looks. They also help to prevent stains and damage, which makes them ideal decorating tools for households with young children. Slip covers offer cheap, flexible, and easy elegance, and are probably the interior design pro's best kept secret.
